Because stress affects both the mind and body, and impacts overall health and well-being, it is important to become aware of what causes you to feel stressed. 

By identifying the sources of your stress, you can learn ways to positively cope, manage your stress levels, and improve your health.

We are each unique individuals - what one person perceives as stressful may not be stressful to another person. Nonetheless, whatever causes an individual to feel stressed has a real impact on his or her health and well-being.


Possible sources of stress include :

  • Your attitude - Your outlook influences how you feel about and respond to events in your life. You are likely to experience greater amounts of stress if you have a negative attitude.
  • Your health - Your physical condition can cause stress. A poor diet and a lack of physical activity can make you prone to experiencing added amounts of stress. Also, the demands of illness or disability can cause stress to those who are afflicted.
  • Your social network - Negative social interactions can be very stressful. We can also be stressed by the expectations and demands that others place on us.
  • The environment - Crowded spaces, noise, and pollution impact our well-being and increase the stress we experience.
