What is Physical Activity?
Physical activity is any bodily movement produced
by skeletal muscles that results in an expenditure of energy (U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services)
Here are some examples of physical activities:
- Swimming

- Riding your bike

- Playing Tennis
- Walking up stairs

The American Heart Association states that physical
activity
- Strengthen your heart, bones, muscles, and lungs
- Gives you more energy and strength
- Helps control your blood pressure and weight
- Helps you handle stress
- Helps you sleep better
- Helps you look good
Physical Activity
Recommendations
According to Healthy People 2010
Adults should strive to meet either of the following
physical activity recommendations.
- Adults should engage in moderate-intensity physical activities
for at least 30 minutes on 5 or more days of the week.
OR
- Adults should engage in vigorous-intensity physical activity
3 or more days per week for 20 or more minutes per occasion
