| Health Education Center Volunteer Program |
| The Health Education Center is a division of the Counseling and
Health Services Cluster (comprised of the Counseling Center, Career Center,
Student Health Center, and the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Counseling
and Health Services). Our mission is to promote healthy lifestyle choices
through education, leadership opportunities, and campus programming. |
Service Site |
 |
Volunteers offer time, spirit, and talent to the rich programs that the Health Education
Center provides to the UCI Community. Among the benefits of volunteering at the Health Education
Center are the development of service leadership, exposure to public health issues and student
affairs operations, career mentorship by professional staff, and functioning as part of team with
other students in furthering the mission of the Health Education Center. |
Opportunities |
 |
Health Education offers both short and long term volunteer opportunities.
Large venues and programs like the Health Junction and AIDS Walk Orange County need a lot of student
support for only a short period; to prepare/set-up, execute, and break down activities. Projects
such as the Sex Box and other long term programming are great for volunteers desiring at least 30
hours of service. Staffing the front desk is also a long term commitment. |
Time Commitment |
 |
Volunteers can earn 1.3 P/NP units per quarter for a minimum of 30 hours of service.
Registration is by authorization, Health Education will provide an add code or add card signature. A 3-5 page
paper describing the experience and their general reactions must be submitted with completed service logs to
receive academic credit. |

Valuation Volunteers give their time, spirit, and talent freely in hopes of creating
an impact for the betterment of their community. Volunteers are often motivated by building relationships,
engaging in meaningful work and the compatibility with the organizational mission. Volunteers can expect a
"valuation" from their supervisor that reinforces the value their presence contributes to the Health
Education Center and offers suggestions to further their service leadership. Valuations will be given quarterly.
An opportunity to provide feedback on the service site occurs concurrent with the valuation. |
