WHAT do Peer Health Educators
do?
- Peer Health Educators provide health information and health
promotion programs for their fellow students with the goal of
improving the wellness of the campus community. These programs
can be interactive mini-health fairs presented in residence halls
or at campus sites such as the ARC and the Cross Cultural Center;
or, they can be health education workshops presented to clubs
or residence hall groups.
WHAT do Peer Health Educators study?
- PHEs study health behavior theory, college student lifestyle
research, social marketing, and wellness and health risks in the
areas of tobacco use, alcohol and
other drug use, nutrition, fitness, stress, sexual health and
relationships.
WHY does a student benefit from this experience?
- This program is a great foundation for potential RAs, CPs,
student government, and other peer leadership positions.
- Practical training in health promotion leads to careers in
public health and success in graduate school applications for
a Masters in Public Health and other health professions.
- Membership in a positive group experience and the satisfaction
of contributing to the health of your peers and your campus community
are very rewarding.
