With a little thought and planning, eating out can be nutritious as well as tasty

  • Many restuarants and fast food chains make nutrition facts available in print and online, take a look before you go or ask when you get there to compare your favorite items
  • Think variety, and choose foods from different food groups, in moderate amounts
  • Hold the mayo, or other sauces.  Don't be afraid to customize your order
  • If you know you will be eating out, plan the rest of your meals accordingly.  Choose lower fat, or calorie options as other meals.
  • Look for "heart healthy", "low fat" or "light"options
  • Choose food prepared in a healthier way (baked, broiled, steamed), see "Eating Healthy" on campus section for more information
  • Watch your portion size, take half home with you or share with a friend
