
Health Leader Certification Class
Fall Program
Do you want to create a healthy community? Do you want to learn health promotion techniques that will have an impact on college students?
Be a part of the health promotion movement by becoming a certified Health Leader!
Goal:
You will learn about and participate in health promotion strategies that will impact the wellness of the Middle Earth housing community. Attending at least 6 sessions will qualify you for a Health Leader Certificate.

Overview of Program:
Location: Health Education Center (G319)
Date and Time: Wednesdays 3:00-5:00 pm; Weeks 2, 3, 5, & 10
Location: Middle Earth Residence Hall (TBD)
Date and Time: Wednesdays 6:00-8:00 pm; Weeks 4, 6, 8
During Weeks 3 and 5, the students will be introduced to a specific health topic. Discussion on the health topic includes the impact on students, especially residents of the Middle Earth community. Then, the students will develop a community action project to be implemented during Weeks 4, 6, 8 in select Middle Earth residence halls. Finally, students will receive feedback and evaluate each community action project.

Winter Program
Certified Health Leaders are eligible for our Health Leader Intern Program in Winter 2010. This program is suited for aspiring community health educators, students interested in a Master of Public Health, and students personally interested in health and wellness. The program is hands-on and project-based. You will be exposed to the daily operations of the Health Education Center and be mentored by a Health Educator on staff.
Spring Program
Calling all certified Health Leaders! If you enjoyed participating in the program, you’ll love leading the participants in the upcoming Fall class. Spring training will reunite you with your Health Leader peers as you build skills to be an effective Discussion Leader. The training will focus on understanding health behavior change models, communication skills, and program development. The schedule for the training will be coordinated by the 8th week of Winter quarter. If you are interested in becoming a Discussion Leader for the Fall Health Leaders Certification class, please inquire before 8th week of Winter Quarter.
